Cat and Genny – Know your ground

Course Objectives
How the CAT & Genny functions and to improve operatives’ awareness of how to avoid damaging buried utilities and operate in a safe, efficient and more cost effective manner.

Course Format – Classroom
• Reasons for using buried pipe and cable locators – understanding health, safety and
financial implications including guidance on how to comply with HS(G)47 –“ Avoiding
Danger From Underground Services”. Examples of “getting it wrong” will be
demonstrated and discussed.
• Basic Electromagnetic Theory – how a pipe and cable locator works, theory and
limitations, tips and tricks. Information to help operatives understand what the equipment can and cannot locate.
• Controls and operation – which buttons to press, checking equipment is functioning
correctly.

Course Format
• You will be guided to watch two 30 minute videos, the first being the CAT & Genny Training video and the second will be the Know Your Ground video.
• On completing of the videos, you will have access to a variety of supplemental documents to help understand both the use of Cats & Gennys and safe practises in your working environment.
• You will then be tasked to answer 30 questions on CAT & Gennys use and 20 questions on Know Your Ground – Please allow around 2 hrs to complete the course.
• You will be required to get 90% of the questions correct to produce a pass and issue you with a certificate.

Certification
• Each operative on completion of the course will receive a certificate stating you have passed theoretical training in the use of CAT & Genny.
